Katie is also available on select Fridays + Saturdays BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
Appointments are not necessary during regular hours, however if you have limited time or would prefer a private appointment for any reason when dropping off your jewelry, there is a link below that will provide you with my calendar of availability. -
ASSESSMENT + ESTIMATE
Katie will speak with you personally and inspect your jewelry herself, on the spot.
Katie does not let anyone else take in or make assessments of jewelry.
Katie has seen first hand the errors, confusion, and/or misinterpretations that commonly occur when those untrained in repairs take them in.
Katie prefers to speak to you personally as to avoid these issues.
As previously mentioned -- Katie performs your repairs herself, in-house, and your pieces never leave the shop.
Katie will typically give you an estimate on site after assessing your piece, but if a piece is particularly complicated or requires more estimation than can be done quickly, on the spot -- you may be asked to leave your information and Katie will get back to you, either later the same day or in a day or two.
Sometimes multiple approaches exist concerning a repair, depending on the nature of the problem and/or how advanced or structurally compromising damage is. If there are stages a repair can be done in to reduce costs, different options at different price points, or different solutions for one particular problem, Katie will help you assess the best fit for you by discussing the pros and cons, costs, and wearability and/or durability concerns of each option. -
REPAIR PROCESS + PICKUP
Katie will let you know the approximate amount of time it will take to repair your jewelry at the time of drop-off. This timeline can vary depending on current work load, but tends to be a week or two on average.
If for some reason the repair takes longer than expected, Katie will contact you with an updated timeline.
If other issues are discovered upon closer inspection or after cleaning (if a piece is particularly dirty at drop off), gold costs vary greatly beyond your estimate (due to volatility in the market, or any other relevant reason), Katie will call to discuss the repair with you BEFORE performing any work.
We'll never perform additional repairs you have not been informed of and authorized.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much is a ring sizing?
This is the million dollar question! I get asked this daily in my webchat or on the phone.
The simple answer is: It can vary.
Sizing starts at $39, but can go up from there.
Katie cannot give you an accurate estimate without seeing your ring and sizing you in person first.
The relative number of sizes, whether it's going up or down, type of metal, amount of new gold needed, presence of stones, type of settings, and overall structure of the ring itself can all act as variables in sizings -- hence the inability to quote a price without more information.
As a general rule - simple single metal bands with no stones are the least labor intensive to size and tend to be less expensive than sizing rings with stones. Generally going down is less expensive than going up due to less precious metal needed..
With both you and your ring in person, I can make an accurate assessment.
What does it cost for an inspection?
Inspections are always FREE.
We'd all prefer to catch your damage before something catastrophic, like lost diamonds, happens.
Stop in anytime during normal hours to have your jewelry inspected for wear or damage.
How often should my jewelry be inspected?
We recommend once annually, or once every six months if you know you are particularly hard on jewelry or you have been told specific repairs are imminent -- for example: you know you have some prong damage from a previous inspection.
You should also get jewelry inspected immediately if you know you did something to it or while wearing it that has you questioning possible damage, if you hear a rattling noise when you wear or take your piece off, if you see stones 'wiggling', or if you know you got your prongs caught on something.
If you cannot visibly see prongs over your diamond anymore and know that you used to be able to see them better, that may be another clue to stop into a jeweler.
How are repairs priced?
Repairs are priced based on level of complication, amount of labor required, and precious materials costs.
Estimates are priced according to standard and fair rates established by the jewelry trade, however gold prices fluctuate.
If an estimate given unexpectedly does not reflect the actual costs of materials when we go to order them or perform the work, you will be informed BEFORE any work is performed so that you may opt-out if you so choose.
What are the most common types of repairs?
The top ten I see regularly, in no particular order:
1. Sizing
Expect this anytime you gain or lose weight, and sometimes with pregnancy and/or other health issues.
2. Prong Retipping + Rebuilding / Channel or Bezel Rebuilding
Expect this to be necessary sometime between 10-30 years of wear on average. Prongs are smaller and wear down faster than channels and bezels. Those who are harder on jewelry, who are wearing inherited heirloom jewelry, or who wear pieces every day will find that these repairs may come more frequently.
3. Chain Repair
Small or hollow chains break more readily than large, solid chains. It's not uncommon for a delicate chain to snap, particularly if caught on something. Hollow chains will be assessed on site, as some can be repaired and some cannot.
4.Soldering Rings Together
Many women choose to solder wedding rings together after several years, either because they don't like the movement or to stop or prevent wear and tear.
5. Turning an antique watch or brooch into something else
You wouldn't believe how many of these we've done! Those pieces can be transformed into something more wearable, while still retaining much of their existing character.
6. Arthritic Shanks ( or other solutions for large knuckles + spinning rings )
Large knuckles may require one of several available options we can discuss in person after seeing your ring and hands.
7. Jewelry Conversions
Sometimes someone wants posts instead of hooks, screw backs instead of regular posts, wants part of a ring made into a pendant, or to combine family rings into a new piece. Sometimes this isn't a fully custom project and we can reconfigure existing pieces with minimal input.
8. Diamond 'Upgrade'
Is it time? Sometimes people find they want to upgrade their center stone after a number of years. We can modify your ring to accomodate a new or different center stone when you're ready.
9. Reshanking
The shank (band) of your ring can wear thin after decades of wear. This can be uncomfortable, can result in bending or breaks in the shank, and can even compromise stone settings on some rings.
This repair removes the portion of the shank that is no longer structurally sound and replaces it with new gold to restore it to it's original thickness. It'll look like it never happened.
10. Bracelet Enlargements
Sometimes you need a bangle made larger because you change size, or because you inherited it from a loved one who was smaller.
Do you repair platinum jewelry?
Yes, we perform repairs on Platinum jewelry (as well as on all colors of gold).
Do you repair silver or costume jewelry?
We do repair silver jewelry, but NOT silver plated jewelry, hollowware or table top objects.
This is actually a very specific type of repair that must be done by someone who specializes in this type of work.
We do NOT repair costume jewelry due to the fact that it very rarely holds because of the eutectic and unknown alloys it is made from. Repairing costume jewelry can also be incredibly toxic to work on because the metals used in foreign-produced costume jewelry are unregulated.
The only exception to this are simple jewelry glue repairs, ear-wire repairs or replacements, or clasp replacements -- anything that does not require the application of heat.
If you have a sentimental or well-loved costume jewel you still want to be able to wear -- there may be ways to work with it without applying heat, but you'll need to bring it in for a consultation to discuss any options.
How do I know my jewelry is safe with you?
Your jewelry never leaves our store. It does not get shipped elsewhere for repairs, so there is no transit or other business you need worry about.
Your jewelry also gets tucked away into our safe anytime we're not working on it, and we have all of the security measures you'd expect from any other jewelry store.
Beyond this -- Katie would never perform a task she didn't feel 100% capable of, and never has.
We invite you to check out our GOOGLE reviews from real clients if you are nervous about leaving your jewelry.
Can you do SAME-DAY or RUSH repairs?
It may be possible, but it will depend on the repair and our current work load.
If you need it fast -- give us a call first and we will see what we can do.
We try to make miracles happen when we can, especially if you're traveling or have a special event around the corner.
Rush repairs will incur a rush fee.
Do you work on watches?
NO, we do not work on watches.
Katie specializes in jewelry exclusively.
