Private Jewelry Making Lessons
More intimate, one-to-one guided lessons to start your jewelry journey, refresh lost or forgotten skills, or advance your skill set with expert guidance.
Private lessons are exclusive and students often prefer this type of instruction because they get my undivided attention and typically complete more projects and gain more solid skills in less time.
One on one lessons are flexible!
We can cover whatever topic(s) you choose and can pivot as desired.
We can also spend our time together on the nuances of building your own studio and talking shop -- discussing the specifics about studio and equipment setup, safety, and recommendations.
It's your time, so we can use it as best suits you.
The studio spans multiple working areas and is equipped for everything from enameling, lost wax casting and 3D printing to traditional soldering and stone setting.
Private lessons are also available for those interested in achieving the technical proficiency in permanent jewelry welding or starting a permanent jewelry business.
Katie has also taught other established jewelers new techniques, and is comfortable working with students at all levels.
Are you ready to discover your new favorite hobby?

The Consult
The first step to starting your private jewelry journey is to book our initial consultation, we'll get to know each other a little bit better.
I'll get a better feel for your background and interests, and you'll get to ask all of your burning questions and give me an idea of what types of peices you dream of eventually making.
Once I have a better idea of your unique situation, I can give you an idea of how much time I think we need to dedicate together, privately, to get you proficient exactly where you want to be.
Consultations are always commitment free. -
Dates + Estimates
Once we've paired you with your perfect set of private lessons (one lesson, two lessons, or up to 18 hours at a time), we'll compare calendars and get you on the books.
Next, we'll determine what kind of materials we may need ahead of your initial lesson, and Katie will be sure to get those ordered ahead of your class date.
If you have specific materials you want to include or work with, you will want to gather those together and plan to bring them with you on our first session, even if we don't think we'll need them until a bit later. This helps me if you plan to use unusual objects or work with existing materials. -
The Day Of
THIS IS IT! It's the moment you've been waititng for.
We'll work together for a minimum of three hours at a time to focus on your skillset together. Katie is available for up to 8 hours at a time if you're traveling from out of town -- we'll discuss this as part of that initial call.
You need only show up with yourself, closed toed shoes, clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and your excitement
(unless you have things to contribute, as previously mentioned. Bring that, too, if that applies to you).
You'll leave with new skills, a feeling of accomplishment, and too many ideas for future projects.
Words From Students

from Jean:
"...same quality of teaching as in the group class, but all the instructions are directed just to you and fit your individual needs. You’ll accomplish so much more work as you’re not waiting for others and there are no distractions. The instructor stays with you until you have completed your piece. The quiet is a nice benefit.”

from Ben:
"This was a requested workshop to learn a new setting style. As always, Katie was well prepared with all materials needed and ready to start right on time. She explained the objective for the workshop and showed examples... Everything was well explained and where appropriate, alternatives were discussed. At the end of the workshop, I had completed the project that we had set out to create. Katie is an excellent instructor. I have a high level of confidence in her background knowledge and skill. Our time was well spent and I received a great value for the time and money spent."

from Wallee:
"I’ve been taking classes with Katie for over five years now. She is a great teacher; friendly, warm, knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and able to pass her skills along in a challenging, but not overwhelming, way. Katie plans projects that allow students to achieve a piece of art they are proud to show-off to friends and say, “I made this.” My friends are impressed when I say I’m taking a jewelry making class; they are even more impressed to see my final pieces. I consider myself crafty, not artistic. But Katie’s classes allow me to create a piece if art that I cherish."
