In this 2 day weekend workshop, students will explore designing special works to preserve precious objects.  Students will learn to design around their favorite mementos and treasures, including preserving them behind glass and setting them in creative ways.  Examples for inspiration will be shown at the beginning of the class, and demonstrations will guide students.

This class is designed for intermediate to advanced students who are proficient at soldering.

Jewelry: Etched Metal Bracelets

In this class, students will learn to etch their own surface designs into copper using a chemical and resist process.  Students will fabricate bracelets from these designs and learn to apply chemical patinas to the surface for contrast.  Students will have the opportunity to design, fabricate, and finish one or more of their own bracelet designs.  This class is designed for students with no prior experience. (Materials Fee +$40)

4 weekly sessions, Tuesdays @ 6:30pm-9:30pm

Wax Carving and Metal Casting

In this class, students will learn how to make 3D metal jewelry using the lost wax casting method.  Students will hand carve, sculpt, and make molds of existing objects to create their own original designs.   Casting will be done off-site at Katie’s studio, and students will have the opportunity to create multiple pieces.

6 weekly sessions, Mondays @ varying times: Beginners: 2-5pm, Advanced: 6-9pm

Pressure Fit Boxes

In this two day weekend workshop, students will learn to construct hollow formed boxes with pressure fit lids from sheet metal.  The techniques covered will include paper templates/pattern making, hollow construction, scoring, drilling, soldering, stone setting, and finishing.  Students will be able to decorate their boxes with a number of additional techniques of their choosing.  The first day will be comprised of demonstrations and pattern making, while the second will allow students time to produce their own small box.

This workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced students who are proficient at soldering and have basic stone setting knowledge.
