Basics of Silversmithing: Beginner Bezels & Prongs

6 week course, meeting once weekly

  • Friday afternoons, 1-4pm (CHOOSE BETWEEN TWO UPCOMING SESSIONS)

  • Each course limited to FOUR students for intimate setting + maximum one-on-one attention

This course will cover the basics of silversmithing and jewelry design/fabrication.  We will cover basic forming, soldering, bezel making and setting, simple prongs, and liver of sulfur patinas.  Students will have the opportunity to work in copper, brass, and/or sterling silver.  

This course is designed for the beginning student.
Intermediate to advanced students are invited to join, and will gain valuable practice, as well as be guided toward more advanced projects, and will learn soldering tips and tricks for working with many small parts and delicate assemblages.

*Earring image shown is an intermediate example of this project. Ring image shown is an example of a beginner project. Students may choose to create earrings, a pendant, or ring.

Materials vary depending on individual student needs.  Katie will have a selection of stones and materials for purchase on-site.  Materials will be calculated at the end of class, and dues paid on the last day.  Each student’s cost will vary depending on size of piece, number/type of stones, and choice of metal and it’s total weight. Average range of material cost for this course is $30-$75.
